Hmmm?

Ok...so I feel a little, slow right now!  I don't know what I am doing and I need help!  What are the assignments for this class supposed to look like. Right now I feel like the assignments link, the schedule link and the syllabus all say different things. I have a really hard time without very detailed instructions so if someone can help me out I would really appreciate it.

  1. Hi, Ronnie!

Okay, fellow bloggers, help me out if I've missed anything:

I think following the Digital Inklings blog is the best thing to do. Also, I printed off all the pages Denvy posted on his website for us, then read through everything and that helped me (I do still like paper for some things).

First, you establish your blog and post your intro, which you've done.

Then, you look up a few journal articles on blogging for education and review them here on your blog (I used the online library at WOU to find mine).

Denvy blogged to say that because there are 18 students in the class he was putting us into two groups and that we should just comment on blogs in our own groups unless we were moved to comment on others. You are in my group, and if you look on Denvy's Digital Inklings blog, there's a list of us by first name (you have to scroll down for this--it's on the left hand side of the screen). I think (don't quote me) that the second group starts with my name (Melanie).

What we are working on now is adding gadgets to our blogs. I found a YouTube video and embedded that in a post--you can also add a list of the blogs you are following here, a page view counter, surveys, lots of other things by going to your "dashboard."

    Hope that helps!

    Melanie

  2. Hmmm. I posted a long comment here an hour ago, saw it post, read it, and now it's not here. So forgive me if two posts turn up tomorrow, Ronnie.

I think the best way to follow our progress is the Digital Inklings blog. I also printed off and read all the pages Denvy posted for us on his website, the one we were orignally linked to from Moodle. That helped me. I still like paper for some things. ;->

Basically, we established our blogs and posted an introduction, which you have already done. The we were to find at elast two articles on blogging in academic/professional journals, read them, and blog about them. I found mine using the WOU online library.

Next, Denvy wrote that because there are 18 students in the class that he was splitting us into two groups and that we should focus on blogs in our groups (but we are free to post on any of them if we are so moved). You and I are in the same group. If you go to Digital Inklings and scroll down, there's a list of us by first name. I'm Melanie, and I think that the second group begins with my name.

Now we are just adding gadgets to our blogs. I added a video clip, a page view counter, the search function, those sorts of things. These are all available on the "dashboard" of your blog.

    Hope that helps!

    Melanie

  3. Thanks for the help...it is helpful. I guess I just feel that there are too many things saying something slightly different. I will do what you suggest and see what Denvy says tomorrow.

    Thanks

  4. Blogging is great and it is even greater if it's the only thing you have to do in life. I'm now working with about 50 blogs and so I don't get to each of you as quickly as I'd like. Melanie hit it on the head. Also you will discover that with minimal guidance from me, your classmates will walk you through the process. Just reading and commenting and most of all continue to questions and think critically about this whole process. There are no rigid guidelines for discovery or for how blogs can be used best. We need to create those guidelines for ourselves, our classmates and in some cases for all persons using blogs.

  5. Fifty blogs! Okay, that sounds a little like a nightmare to me... ;-> That's what I worry about in using blogs for my students.

  6. Me, too! Blogging is a great idea, but I am afraid of opening up a can of worms! :o}

  7. Honestly I think fifty is probably a small number but it seems like a good idea once the logistics are taken care of.
